Goals/Benefits:

Encourage and assist youth running with focus on FLRC members;

Give financial assistance to all runners with special events/situations;

Promote running as well as the FLRC;

More fully comply with our non-profit status and our charge to benefit society
General Tenets:

Make the process simple, straight-forward and informal;

Bestow a high level of discretion to the Scholarship Committee;

Realize that the Scholarship is a "work-in-progress" and should evolve over
time.

THIS SCHOLARSHIP REPLACES ALL EXISTING FLRC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS
Specific Points:

Account - Separate "accounting" for Scholarship funds, but not a separate
account.
FLRC Treasurer to track amount of funds available for Scholarship.

Funding
Race Profits*; totally at Race Directors discretion. Race Director can contribute
up to 25% of race profit. A minimum of 10% is recommended.
Donations It is anticipated that Scholarship funds will also be obtained
through private donation. The Scholarship will be publicized on the FLRC
web page and on race applications.
*Race profit is defined as money left after all direct race expenses have
been paid.

Applicants Anyone with a running related need. This includes,
but not limited to: runners attending camps or seminars, prestigious or unique
events. Includes individuals, teams or other groups.

Applications - No deadline. Applications to be reviewed in a timely
fashion and sensitive to the applicants schedule/dead-lines.

Applications should describe the running activity and important dates associated
with this activity.

Provide applicants running history, achievements and aspirations.
Extra-curricular activities (running or non-running) that the applicant is
involved in. Statement of financial need.

Applications are intended to be brief but applicant can include any information
that they believe is pertinent.

If application is for a team, must describe number of runners to be served
and how award is to be used/distributed.

Decision Guideline - At the discretion of the Committee. General
"prioritization" rule follows;

Students (individual or team). No age restriction but assumes full-time,
matriculated status.

K-12 students have priority over college Undergraduate
-
Undergraduate college students have priority over Graduate students
-
Olympic qualifying events, including Senior Olympics.

Need; defined by Committee.

In all applications, FLRC members would have priority over nonmembers.

Decision Rule -

All Scholarship Committee decisions must be reported to the Board
-
If Committee member has a vested interest in an applicant, that committee
member will be recused from the decision making process specific to that
applicant.

Amount of Award -

Maximum of $200 per individual - Maximum of $500 per team;
-
No Minimum - No prior award ineligibility
