Reynolds Smokes the Competition at North Central

Does Joe Reynolds know his limits? Does he know what age group he is running in now? Apparently not, by looking at his Fall 2004 running resume. First, Joe finishes 1st Super Vet in the Upstate New York XC Series, pulling off some pretty excellent times. Then he feels the need to really show off by smoking all of the competition in his age group at the Northern Central Trail Marathon on November 27, 2004. Joe pulled-off a 3:33:37 marathon, a huge win over his closest competition in the 60–64 age group; the closest second place finisher was 20 minutes behind him.

I followed Joe on my bike, grateful that I was not running. Although it was a very sunny day with temps in the 40s, the wind took a turn for the worse as the marathoners hit the turnaround to come back to the finish. The last 13.1 miles were run in a headwind that even tired me out on my bike. But Joe ran tough and finished strong, even though the last two miles were run uphill to the finish.

Congratulations to my honey. You ran strong, and I am so proud of you. I guess I can't make fun (not too much, anyway) of your unconventional prerace meals of jelly donuts, jalapeno cheese crackers, and Gatorade! And the spicy chicken sandwich, smothered in onions and green peppers with the side of french fries, the night before the marathon must have powered you through. My husband, you simply amaze me!
