[Ed. note: John Stiner and I asked Whitlock why he selected his hometown marathon, the Scotia Bank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, to try for the world record, when he had so many other offers. He said he knew the record would be ratified on that course, with no exceptions noted in the record books.]
