More Dirt

Well, from my personal point of view, Danby Down & Dirty lived up to its name. I went down, and I got dirty (muddy).

To quote Tim Ingall, "Weather only an Englishman could love."

What a way to cap off the year! I stayed with the first five, which included Tim and Tom Meyer, until the first water stop.

I didn't look at my watch, but I could tell by my sucking of the "English air" that I had gone out too fast. Hey, ya don't know until ya try. Well, I settled into my pace after the first hill. Bob, who just moved to Ithaca from Pittsburgh, and I teamed up for the second leg. We had a good pace going until I decided to wallow in the mud in the creek bed. I felt it's healing powers almost immediately. I finally caught Bob at the water stop on the dirt road with the lovely couple handing out drinks. The woman said, "You dont have to go up the hill again, just go down the road and take a right". Bob took off quite speedily. I kinda moseyed behind him until I saw him shoot off to the left, which is back up the hill. I yelled to him but he kept on going. I turned around to find a young kid, they're all young to me, and asked him if we go right or left. He reassured me to go right. Well we ran together to the finish and because I figured he was about one-third my age, there was no need to challenge.

I retired my trail shoes, as they are plum wore out. However they did serve me well this year. I had a great time seeing and running with y'all and hope to continue for many years to come.

And don't forget: June 19, 2005 is Tanglewood part II.
