| Two Weeks Later…Mt. Desert Island Marathon |
| |
It was beautiful, tough but still enjoyable. Becky
finished 2nd woman in 3:12. She never saw the first place women. Thaisa
finished 3rd W40–44 in 3:34, and I finished in 3:38. We were all very
happy with our times on a hilly and challenging course. The views were
outstanding. I did not feel rested; recovered from Wineglass, yes, but
not rested going into this race. We spent several hours hiking in Arcadia
the day before, including a hike up the second tallest mountain in the
park. So, in all, I was very happy with my finish. There was a huge
lighting rainstorm half an hour before the start of the race over the
harbor—this was a sight to be seen. We were very relieved that it
finished before we started the race. The course is comparable to The
Adirondack or God's Country Marathon. Lots of rolling and some steep
hills. You get to run through small towns and along the bay. You can see
fishing boats as well as New England Mansions. I would recommend it to
anyone who likes a course with great scenery.
