| Croom FL"Fools" Trail Fifties (& 25K) | |
No mud, water, or rocks. A few roots, and occasional stretches of "sugar sand" will slow you down. There were several 100 foot high steep hills that I walked.
This race is much like our Finger Lakes Fifties -- with identical distances. The 25K was added this year, the 10-th year of this race, and the total number of starters doubled to 150. Unlike our Fifties, you must declare your distance ahead of time -- also unlike our Fifties, the 25K runners got an entry fee price break.
I ran the 25K, which started at 7 AM, with a temp. of about 50 F and sunny. When I finished in 2:39:16 it was in the low 60's. There was a real ringer, about 30, who won the 25K with an incredible 1:36:40 -- more than an hour ahead of me!
I won the 60+ age group, which wasn't hard to do, as there was only one other in my age group, more than an hour behind me.
Pizza! A small bottle of wine! And if I had waited until 2 PM there would have been free seafood from Shell's (a Red Lobster look alike chain here in FL)! I love races with food and drink!
I'll definitely do this one again next year.
