| John Whitman, and Frank & Sally Rusby Named Hartshorne Memorial Volunteers of the Year 2003-2004 | |
Congratulations and well-deserved honors to John, and Frank and Sally (one unit), all voted by the membership as the Hartshorne Memorial Volunteers of the Year. Actually, John, Frank, & Sal have been volunteers of the year for nearly two decades. Only old-timers would recall John Whitman as the unsung Skunk Cabbage race director in the 1980s (back at it again in 2004); and Frank and Sally working on club events dating back to the Jim Hartshorne and Barb Booker eras.
All three have served with good humor, dedication, and true grit—and have provided much-desired trucks. Working the endless FLT 50s, the dearly departed FL Marathon and the sub-zero windchill FL Snowshoe (Rusbys) or serving as equipment manager and a race director (Whitman), should qualify all for sainthood.
In the upcoming issues we will profile our winners so you can get to know them in some depth, and have some club members share their thoughts of each volunteer.
The winners will receive a "gift" of their choosing. We love and appreciate you all!
| Given the inspiration of these dedicated FLRC members, and the other helpers you see at every race and track event, you also must be hankering to volunteer, eh? Read on to discover opportunities that are just right for you! |
