Wineglass

They have this race in Corning
A marathon that requires no dawdling.
A marathon with class called Wineglass
Where no one has to chew and spit grass.

Twenty-two years from the gun it has been run
So, to the race crew, it must be fun.b Their sponsor is Guthrie/Corning Hospital - so the race has to be spot free.
HealthWorks have the Relay - so runners must scram
Otherwise rehab will be in mayhem.
Their medal shines so blue, for those who run true.
So boogie you three -- yellow pinned to thee, not the tree!

From Bath; a point to point.
No time to smoke a joint!
No time to paint the postb Or fall in love with that gal Elmira.

With last min power from Philips Lighting
Runners have their chips charged ready for alighting
To Savona, Painted Post and the Line - for which they will be waiting.

Down roads lined with fields and trees
No holds barred even without a tail breeze.
Drink water from stops galore; the volunteers' chore.
And count mile markers; large enough to wear starkers!
There is no doubt you're on course -
Despite sniffing cow, sheep or horse -
The signs just tell you so; they make you go go go!

The Relay bows right by, but they do have time to say, "Hi".
Supporters cheer from above the long parallel called Curtis
Then it's to Coopers Plains and change.
The race returns to town, touring a bike path and Painted Post
Well before it's time for the nightgown and toast.

The glass Museum at last welcomes you home
Before your hourglass shatters and makes you foam.
Many stand and cheer the straights
Then it's the barn door and applying brakes.

The time clock keeps a ticking
Til every US and Canuck's heels stop a clicking.
A truly friendly race; tapered
And a challenging caper
Worthy of write-ups in many a paper.
A qualifier for Boston;  which makes it a MUST COME
For the weather is kind
And Fall is just a picture behind.

The End----
