| Triple Tracks Revisited | |
I'd like to revive the infamous Triple Tracks Run this summer. Back in the First Age, this was a summer tradition for High Noon Runners like Rick Cleary and John Whitman. I have done it 3 or 4 times, before it went out of favor. Here are the details as I remember:
1. It's done on a weekend morning in the summer.
2. Course - Starts at Teagle and runs down to Ithaca High track. 2 miles are completed on the track (a 1 mile option is also available). Then it goes up East Hill to Ithaca College track, and 1-2 miles are run on the track. Then it goes down and up to Cornell and 1-2 miles are run on the Cornell football stadium track. There was an alternate (easier) version for a few years that started and finished at Rick Cleary's house, halfway up South Hill.
I'm not sure of the total distance, but I think it's about 17 miles if you do all the 2 mile runs. The runs between the tracks are done very slowly in a group. Everyone is free to run the 1-2 miles on the track as fast/slow as they wish. Nobody leaves the track until everyone has completed the track run.
I'd like to schedule the run for 8 AM on Sunday, Aug. 24. This date has been carefully chosen to fit into my schedule, and to give out of town people time to make their reservations. I've heard talk of other High Nooners wanting to schedule this event earlier in the year. This is perfectly all right, but these will be Triple Tracks training runs, not the official 2003 Triple Tracks. In order to get credit for the 2003 official Triple Tracks, you must complete the Aug. 24 event.
Hope to see everyone at 8 AM on Sunday, Aug. 24 at Teagle.
