Near Death Experience

Ultra runner/100-miler pal Barb Sorrell, who comes to our trail runs, sent me an item concerning runner Michele Burr's near death battle with hyponatremia. It's posted on the Virginia Happy Trails website: vhtrc.org. Be sure to take a look at it! It's very likely to afflict marathoners as well.

Michelle is fairly new to the ultra scene, but has already earned some impressive credentials: a 20:09 at the Arkansas Traveller; a 17:23 at Rocky Raccoon; and a 19:26 at Vermont 100, where the hyponatremia kicked in. Also see: www.ultrarunner.org/vt100micheleburr.htm.

It's a hair-raising story which should scare everyone into taking care of their electrolyte/hydration needs, like it or not. Michele is hardly a naive beginner; it appears from her Website she has a Ph.D. in a science field.
