Good Sport Report
[Asst editor's note: Certain people are VERY LUCKY that Little Ms. Grithead chose not to show up for this first trail race of the season, as she would most certainly be WAY behind Bill Taylor and would be VERY CROSS if pelted by snowballs by spectators. Fortunately, as everyone knows, Bill is a real good sport and took that as ENCOURAGEMENT… see his letter below for proof!]
Thanks to Joe and Diane for a great race and having Tom Sobal in to speak. My high point was when we were all standing at the starting line and Tom Sobal shouts out almost pleadingly, "Joe, there's a guy in snowshoes!!!" And Joe answers, "It's just Bill." The low point was when I was coming up the steep hill at about the one mile mark, I was in next to last place and starting to think maybe I should bail out and then I get pelted with snowballs from spectators and one of the race directors. I had no choice but to continue on.
Overall it was good running with the snowshoes. At times, I was going to the sides of the trail to find deeper snow coverage. I was careful crossing the pasture not to pick up anything left by the cows. I was sure you didn't want to have to explain an odor to Redfeathers when you returned the shoes.
And then today, we're still talking late January in Southern California, no I mean upstate New York, I put on my running shorts, my new Tom Sobal door prize socks, and my Tom Sobal autographed long sleeve Snowshoe race shirt and went out for a run. Thanks again!
