Finger Lakes Snowshoe Thanks
We appreciate everyone who turned out for Tom Sobal's slide show, and appeared at the race Saturday morning-with or without snowshoes on their feet. We've enclosed a few up-close-and-personals from Bill Taylor and Tob de Boer, and the Sunday edition story published by the Elmira Star-Gazette. Please see our web site for photos taken by John Stiner of our fun in the "snow." We didn't have enough snow for the 7.6 mile race, but the fun runners had plenty.
Congrats to overall winner and 4-time champion Alan "I don't care if Sobal is a world record holder" Evans and Yvette "nordic skier" de Boer, and to masters winners Tom "mountain man" Sobal and Mary "marathon maven" Wenck. Special snowballs to Bill Taylor who ran with snowshoes anyway, despite being warned to the contrary; and to Scottish Blue Harrier Stephen Snyder, who carried home two owls for just being Stephen. By the way, ask everyone to show you their owls!
Thanks to race director Joe Reynolds, Tom Sobal, Redfeather Snowshoes, Kevin Brew Sales (especially Cathy Chesnut), Ken Moses, Sarah McFarland, Maria Strinni and Salle Richards of the Star Gazette, the Ithaca Journal sports dept., FLRC photographer John Stiner, Todd Miner of Cornell Outdoor Education and all the unsung FLRC volunteers, too numerous to name one by one. Also, thanks to John McMurry and Co. who took Sobal on another real trail run (named pink polka dot something or other) the following Sunday morning.
I personally do not want to write another snowshoe article for at least a year! See ya next year, in the snow -- and don't forget your woolly underwear.
