And Congratulations to Amanda Lockett!

Amanda is our latest recipient of a FLRC Scholarship award. She has been given $150 towards tuition to attend the Aim High Running Camp in northern New York state.

A formal nomination letter was written by a friend of Amanda's and submitted to our committee. But everyone on the executive board already knew how much Amanda has volunteered her services to our club, and participated as an athlete in many of our races.

Amanda is the daughter of Donna and Alan Lockett. Alan, who is on the scholarship selection committee, was unaware of the nomination and did not participate in the selection process.

Amanda is a member of the Moravia girls' varsity cross country team, and with her siblings and parents, is an active member of the FLRC. The Locketts have been the force behind the Fillmore 5K, which helps provide funds to Moravia youth sports.

Amanda made the track/cross country team as an 8th grader, and was one of the outstanding girls on the team. She ran 20-minute 5Ks, and hopes to run sub-20s this coming season. As a 7th grader, Amanda ran a 5:30 for 1500 meters.

Amanda, her mom and her sisters, have won sister-sister awards and mother-daughter awards at our WDF 5K. Meanwhile, dad and brother Nathan have worked the all-women's race, and many other FLRC projects.

Amanda is also an excellent student, a member of the Senior High marching band - where she plays trumpet; and is a member of chorus as well. Amanda plays softball and basketball, and is a stellar student-athlete.

When Amanda returns from camp, she will write about her adventures for our newsletter.

Have fun, Amanda!
