Relay for Life

The Tompkins County edition of Relay for Life is set for July 12-13 at Ithaca High School. It runs from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m.

It's an overnight celebration of hope, progress and answers, honoring the 8.5 million Americans who have survived cancer. Teams of friends, family and co-workers raise funds to support the fight against the disease. You run or walk, lap after lap, around the track.

Last year's event raised $181,000!

The Relay for Life begins at 7 p.m. with a survivor's lap, one of the most moving activities during the evening.

At 10 p.m., the Luminaria ceremony will come to life with candles honoring survivors and those who have lost their lives, all surrounding the track. You can purchase candles for $5 each from the American Cancer Society. They will burn throughout the evening.

All night, there will be live music, team parades, kids activities and movement on the track.

For information - and it's not too late to join a team, call June Losurdo at 227-2276. Also see www.cancer.org. Type in 14850 - Ithaca's zip code, and information will come up for our local event. If you can't be there all night, stop in for just a while.
