Critics Corner

Idea guy Tim Ingall suggested we begin a "good, bad and ugly" review of products and companies that we runners use or buy from. Tim says he's often disappointed by products or customer service people, but then a good one comes through with flying colors. We can review anything from a treadmill to the praising of a chiropractor or even a story about a pair of running shoes that fell apart after Mr. Fun (Bob Congdon) wore them at just 31 consecutive Boston Marathons.

One requirement should be that contributing writers have to submit their own names. Tim says he'd like to learn about products and businesses that local runners have used and like or dislike for whatever reasons.

Yeah Tim, here we go:

I'm going to shamelessly plug a new product a friend of mine has just launched.

Trish (Patricia) Carroll of Darien, Conn. (I met her at the FLT 50s), has started a Web business called Runningcards.com.

We love writing letters, and receiving letters, and with the advent of e-mail and the Internet, personal handwriting and cards you can actually touch and save seem to be artforms that are quickly disappearing.

Right now, Trish is marketing beautifically-photographed running cards -- 8 to a pack, with two themes: zoom and solitude. More themes and varied photographs will follow as time goes on.

The high-quality cards come in a plastic holder, and are wrapped in colored tissue paper.

Trish is an avid runner, and trains with the Bob Glover's group at the NYRRC.

Please go to www.runningcards.com to view the cards, and check on price and mailing details. You can write Trish at PO Box 1753, Darien, Conn. 06820.

I gave a packet to someone for Christmas, and I would be thrilled to receive such gorgeous mail connected to my passion for running.

Please e-mail your product reviews to me or Betsy Martens for upcoming issues.
