Two-Club Kudos for St. Pat's

Big kudos go out to Vince Kelley, first time race-director extraordinaire who pulled off a major coup this past Saturday with the first annual St. Patrick's Day 4-miler in Binghamton! 370 people registered for the race and 330 finished . . . results are posted at our website at this link :St. Patrick's Day 4 Miler.

Also a big thanks to all of our TCRC running club members who helped make this race such a success: George Joseph in charge of the finish line/scoring with Grace Tabeek, Catherine Cardullo and Gene LaBare; and at the registration table: Grace Tabeek, Kevin Pasterchik and Tony Mazza kept the long line moving smoothly; George Groome was a life-saver and did a superb job handling all of the computer results. Lance and Matthew Lee were out handing us ice water at a water stop and I'm sure there were others that I didn't see while racing, and I thank them as well.

From a racer's point of view, it was a nice, friendly course and extremely well-marshaled-in fact, Vince had 40 marshals out there keep things in control and safe. There was a huge spread of food afterwards in the gym and the much anticipated beer kegs were tapped promptly by 11AM and the High Nooners from Ithaca were the first in the quickly growing line. . . .

Personally, Ienjoyed watching Fran Fitch sprint out with the lead pack and go for the Mile Premium; just after Mile 1 when I reeled Fran back in, a young kid cruised past me and I said, "Good going...you must be a Busby or a Nichols...". It was! 12- year-old Benjamin Nichols, from Endicott, finished well ahead of me with a 25:21 (6:21 pace).

All in all a great time, great race, and many of us already look forward to next year's event. On behalf of everyone, thank you Vince, for all of your time and effort and energy in making this happen.

"To Race Director Vince Kelley:

The St. Pat's 4-miler was one of the best first-year races I''ve ever seen. It's fun to do a 4-miler, the course was fast and I've never seen such a lay-out of food outside of a marathon. It was also great to be inside such a warm and large gymnasium pre-and post-race. Be proud! I can't wait until next year. Happy St. Patrick's Day!"
