Congratulations to Dave Oja

David Oja, Syracuse Chargers Track Club president, is the recipient of the Road Runners Club of America Scott Hamilton Award for Outstanding Club Leadership for the year 2001.

During the year 2001, Chargers open men's and women's teams won national championships. For 20 years, Oja has been women's coach, and they too claim presence on the national stage. His was an early voice in pointing out the urgency of family health and fitness, particularly emphasizing that of the children.

Oja is founder and director of the Syracuse Festival of Races, now in its 10th year. Elite runners from Europe, Africa and the Americas gather on the starting line near Syracuse University's Manley Field House to compete at 5 kilometers. Later in the morning, children, their families and school personnel from Syracuse City and Onondaga County compete for participation trophies in a 3K run. The SFoR is scheduled for Oct. 6 this year.

On May 4, David, his wife Linda, and a contingent of Chargers will be in Norfolk, Va., for the RRCA National Convention, where he will receive the Scott Hamilton Award for his substantial efforts.
