Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine is presenting the first annual Zeppy 5K & Kid's Run on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. Proceeds benefit the Zeppy Memorial Fund, which provides Vet care to animals in four area shelters.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three men and women in the 5K: $150, $75 and $50, plus $25 to a winner of a random drawing. The entry form is enclosed in this newsletter.
Schuyler Hospital is hosting a Community Health Fest 5K, also on Oct. 20, starting at 8 a.m., in Clute Park in Watkins Glen.
The overall male and female winners will receive Asics running shoes, plus other nice merchandise for other age group standouts. For information, call 535-8879.
The 8th annual Chris' Run 8K has a new course, new date and new location.The race is set for Oct. 21, at 1 p.m., in Cincinnatus. For information, call the 7 Valleys Council at 756-8970.
The St. James 5K Run and 2.5K Run/Walk will be held Oct. 28, at 2 p.m., at St. James Church in Johnson City. The entry fee is $15 for the 5K and includes a T-shirt and post-race food. Proceeds benefit the St. James Parish Scholarship Fun and St. James' Sister Parish in Mexico.

Two things on Nov. 4 -- actually three, if you count the NYC Marathon:
The 21st annual Red Baron Half Marathon will be held at 1 p.m.,
beginning at Corning CC and finishing at the YMCA downtown. The fee is
$20 pre- or post-race, and a Clydesdale division will be added to the
awards mix. Proceeds benefit the Spencer Crest Nature Center. Email Les

The National Masters 8K Cross Country Championships will be held in Rochester on Nov. 4, too. Go to www.gvh.net, and you can download the entry, and read about the details. No race day registration, and you must be age 40-over to compete. Also, a current USATF membership number is required.
And on Nov. 10, for you trail ultra fans, the Mendon Ponds Park 50K will take place in Mendon Ponds Park on cross country ski trails. You'll repeat a 10-mile loop. The fee is only $15. Email Larry Zygo at zygo@aol.com.
