Disaster Relief
As we go to press, there are no formal fund-raising efforts in place regarding how our running community can aid in disaster relief stemming from the horrific terrorist attacks in NYC, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania on Sept. 11. But, that's not to say there won't be. Two informal initiatives have come to our attention, however. First, the Delta Gamma fraternity will be holding a benefit 5K Run/Walk for America at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Cornell Plantations. Contact mg233@cornell.edu for more details. Second, the Danby Down N'Dirty runs on October 14th will be accepting cash donations for the Red Cross at race registration. Contact race director Sue Aigen for more information.
Another fund-raising effort from our friends at Fleet Feet Sports of Syracuse also deserves mention. Fleet Feet, of course, is a running-related business (not club). They are accepting donations on behalf of the Fire Department of New York Memorial Fund. Fleet Feet will match individual donations up to $100. Donations can be dropped off at the store or mailed to Fleet Feet Sports, 3453 Erie Blvd. East, DeWitt, N.Y. 13214.
Fleet Feet Syracuse employees were in NYC the morning of the attack, getting ready to meet with New Balance officials.
Fleet Feet also has donated $250 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in the name of the Bud Run 5K, held Sept. 15 in Baldwinsville. That race raised funds for the CNY Chapter of Make-A-Wish-Foundation.
You can call Fleet Feet Sports at (315) 446-1444; email them or subscribe to their weekly newsletter online at ffrunsyr@dreamscape.com; or check out their Web site at www.fleetfeetsyracuse.com.
