Finger Lakes Fifties Volunteers Needed
Pam "Dixie" Carlucci has volunteered to contact and coordinate volunteers for the Finger Lakes 50s, set for 6:30 a.m., Saturday June 30. It's a long, long day and we want to try to organize at least two shifts of workers so we all don't have 18 hour days. Volunteers are needed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Workers are needed for the following jobs: five aid stations; finish line timers and crew; set-up on Friday; clean up on Saturday; registration; awards; a truck needed for hauling all day Saturday and some on Friday; food and sports drink preparation; and "living room" workers and servers (at start/finish pavilion). Volunteers receive the best BBQ dinner in town, and a T-shirt.
If interested, please call Pam at 256-3202; or e-mail: jzstiner@aol.com.
Speaking of the Trail Runs...
Joe Reynolds has copied all the trail entries in multi-colored bundles. Respective race directors should contact Joe about getting a pile to distribute in & out of town. What good are they doing sitting on Diane's table? We need to have them available at each upcoming trail run, and at all the races in our region. Please help. Email Joe at flnf10155@yahoo.com.
No Duathlon at Elmira-Thon
Sorry to say, there will be no run/bike/run competition at the 24th annual Elmira-Thon June 10. The reason is road construction -- again, on a different but crucial portion of the course. I'll have more details next month. But expect the 3-mile and 10K and DARE Fun Run as usual.
Women Only
The Freihofer's Run for Women 5K National Open & Masters Championship is set for June 2 in Albany. Registration will cost $25 between May 1-26. No race day sign ups. For details, e-mail info@freihofersrun.com; write PO Box 1200, Troy, N.Y. 12181; call (518) 273-5552.
It's good to get out of town, run with 2,500 women and experience a national championship so close to home.
