Victoria's Thank You Note

[Ed note: Victoria fell over the track curb at the Hartshorne Mile, and broke her glasses. She also bruised herself, and cut her head. All is well now, and Victoria says thanks.]

Dear Friends:

Thanks to the "older gentleman" (whoever you are) who got me my glasses and made sure I could get up when I fell at the Hartshorne Mile meet on the track and infield. He was the first person to help me.

Thanks to meet director Rick Hoebeke, and to Joe Reynolds for helping me, as well as Donna Lockett. I thank Rick and Donna for tending to my injuries around my eye. Also thanks to Diane Sherrer and Lorrie Marnell for their help and concern, and advice.

I got my glasses fixed at Sterling Optical in the Pyramid Mall. A good friend took me there on Saturday after the race. The gentleman at the optical company did an excellent job with bending them back into shape, and putting the lens back in. It didn't cost anything. Also, thanks to Suzanne Myette for her help.

But seeing my friend Patti Ford and another lady (Carolyn Smith Hanna) break records in their race MADE MY DAY! I appreciate everyone else, especially Patti Ford, who were concerned with my injuries at the meet. My eye, knee and two bruised fingers on my right hand are now healed and are okay. Thanks again everyone for your help and concern on Saturday, Jan. 20.

I was able to run the 1500 meters at our all-comers meet the next day, Sunday Jan. 22, with no problems.

-- Victoria Smith

[Ed. Postscript: Victoria wrote again to say that she needed to have her glasses readjusted, and everything was taken care of without charge. She also mailed Suzanne Myette back the $50 check and thanked her for her kindness of offering the prize money to help Victoria pay for the glasses. Victoria says we should be proud of our elite athletes when they help others. And thanks to Bob Carroll and the Buffalo Checkers for their help when she needed it. Glad to hear you're healed and ready to go, Victoria!]
