Heritage Day 15K Road Race and Club Challenge
Berkshire, NY, Sunday, September 9, 2001, 9:30 AM
The First Annual Heritage Day 15K Road Race and Club Challenge will be run on the scenic country roads of Berkshire, NY on Sunday, September 9th. There will be three races scored from this one race; an open to the public race, a club race between the many running clubs of Central New York and the USATF - Niagara Association 15K Championship race.
Berkshire is a small rural community situated halfway between Ithaca and Binghamton on Route 38. Each September the town celebrates its heritage with an annual event including arts and crafts exhibits, tours of historic homes, a parade, and chicken BBQ. This year this race is being added.
The 15K road course begins in front of the fire station. After a quick, flat loop in the center of town, the course moves onto Glen Road and gradually climbs 400' in elevation by the 2.5 mile post, through a shaded glen. The course then gradually gives back the elevation as it winds through another glen on its way to the 4 mile post. The 4th mile is relatively flat. At the 5th mile another hill begins and climbs 400' until the 6th mile. At this point in the race, the route's highest elevation, the views are spectacular as the course works its way, mostly downhill, to the finish line in town.
Runners will be provided with ample refreshments during and after the race including a 50% discount coupon for the chicken BBQ.
Awards will be given in the following categories:
Open Race: Male & Female winners: 17 and under, 18-25, 26-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+.
