Race Directors Forum:
The 16th Annual Virgil Mountain Madness 30K Trail Run

(Directed by Stephen Snyder & The Scottish Blue Harriers)

As the self-proclaimed leader of the Scottish Blue Harriers I consider myself an expert in creating confusion. This run, however, calls not for confusion, but madness, or as the name states -- Mountain Madness. Fortunately I am also an expert at this. So this is what we aim to do. In order to create an atmosphere of pure (mountain) madness I have created a special commission of my finest Scotsmen with only this task. They shall be circulating around on race day creating madness, confusion, and hopefully to amuse you (after all, this is a long run, and you could use a little entertainment). And for the brave few who wish to show their Scottish pride along with us, we will have close to thirty kilts available at our kilt desk for the days festivities.

Along with all of this (mountain) madness, there is also to be a race, and being that this is mountain madness you can expect hills. Lots of hills. 18 miles of pure hill, with a total climb of 3500 feet. All are of course welcome, but be prepared for a difficult run. As a trail run you can expect rock, roots and bodies along the way, so please watch your step. But what a great story this could be to one day tell your children (even better if you can add "and I did it all in a kilt and blue face paint").

After the race there will be the usual festivities, with an added Scottish Blue Harriers' touch. And an after race lunch, with pizza, subs, beverages, and other yummy treats. So please join us for our "sweet sixteenth" annual Virgil Mountain Madness 30K Trail Run. We promise to make this a day you will not soon forget.
