A Zippity-Doo-Dah Day (Plus 5 & 10 Results)

Congratulations to race director Lorrie Marnell & family, and her huge crew of volunteers for their outstanding work. Rave reviews all around from the runners.

Thanks to Steve Lawrence of the Ithaca Times (Sept. 21 edition) for writing an article on the race. For the first time in 26 years, the Ithaca Journal had ZERO post-race coverage.

A DART to Ithaca drivers who seem to think it's their birthright to own the roads, or tell everyone else where and when they can be on the roads. Too many drivers disregarded the Cornell student course marshals, crept up behind runners, blocked the race route and cut in front of runners without warning. I've been at 25/26 5 & 10s, and I've never seen it worse, at least for the 5-milers. Several runners came to me and voiced their concerns.

We had 10 performances worthy of USATF national age-group rankings. The complete results are enclosed, so just check out the age and times of the following folks:

Five miler: Notre Dames' (Elmira) Molly Huddle, age 16 -- and the women's overall winner; and Ithaca's own Frank Moore (M75+). Both of these individuals blew their respective standards out of the planet!

10-Miler: David Cartwright and Paul Halbert (M60); Suzanne Myette, Shirley Woodford and Audrey Balander (F40); Barb Bellows (F45); Sally Rusby (F60) and Joan deBoer (F65).

If you don't know your Disney movies and songs, then you won't understand the zippity-doo-dah T-shirts. Don't believe Phyllis when she says, "I just draw 'em, Diane thinks 'em up." I'm a Wizard of Oz fan.
