FLRC has agreed to host a series of Cross-Country Trail Runs again this year. They will take place on Wednesday evenings (Aug 10, 17, 24, 31) in the upper Watkins Glen Park at 6:45PM. Please arrive by 6:15PM for a walk/run through of the course, which is completely on grass and trail. It's the perfect opportunity to dust off those spikes and practice with them. If you are participating in the Upstate NY Cross Country Series www.peteglavin.com you will notice that one of the races are held on this course, so this is a good way to get that home court advantage. I'll run a stop watch for those interested in their times, and call them out as you finish. Directions: Turn right at the Red Apple Convenience Store in Watkins Glen, stay to the right at the Y to enter the state park. Once you have entered the park, drive toward the stone pavilion and then make a left up the hill, pass through he camping entrance and make the next left into a parking lot. We'll be waiting for you. :-)

Our irreplaceable Treasurer John Sholeen informed the board at our last meeting that he plans to retire at the end of the 2004 calendar year. It is with great sadness that I pass this information along to our membership. John has acted as The Finger Lakes Runners Club Treasurer for many many years. He handles a multitude of tasks that will surely take more than one person to fill when he retires. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank John for his many years of dedicated selflessness service to our club. Often positions such as this, that are hidden behind the scenes go unnoticed. If it weren't for people such as John who are willing to go above and beyond the call of duty, without expecting anything in return we would not have a running club at all. Please Thank John the next time you see him for the years of service and devotion that he has freely given. It will take many to fill the big shoes of this bigger man.

More information from the event organizers:
"This film explores the Thompson family experience with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central New York. Mya, at age 10, was stricken with leukemia but was able to experience the 'power of a wish' through the help of friends such as Olympic Star, Marion Jones, her family and the Ithaca community. Her sister, Rei, (age 16, film producer) recounts Mya's triumphant story in a tribute to Make-A-Wish."
Additional notes:
Rei is a Senior at Ithaca High School (IHS) and was an Ithaca College Park
School intern this past spring. Mya, a sophomore, at IHS played JV
basketball and had a 4.0GPA in high honors classes in 2003-2004. Kevin,
the dad, is an Assistant Coach with the Cornell Men's Track Team and works
part-time with the Ithaca Youth Bureau. Michelle, the mom, is a 2004 Board
Member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and currently is a visiting faculty
member in the Cornell Department of City & Regional Planning Department.
