Minutes of FLRC Executive Board Meeting
September 10, 2003
Present: Diane Sherrer, Lorrie Tily, Don Tily, Jim Bisogni, Tom Meyer, Jeffrey Juran, Alan Lockett, Jim Miner, Karen Grover, John Sholeen, Sue Aigen, Tim Ingall, John McMurry, John Whitman, Evan Kurtz, Tom Scharf
Lorrie called the meeting to order at 5:35
Approval of the minutes of the August 13, 2003 meeting was moved by Tom and seconded by Tim.
Race Reports:
Loop the Lake: No report.
Forge the Gorgeous Trail Runs: Tim reported that the weather was hot and the numbers were down (66). Tim reported several lost runners who left the course without reporting in. Runners should be cautioned that they need to check in even if they don't intend to finish.
Monster Marathon: John McMurry reported that the race went smoothly. There were 90 runners, about the same as last year. John mentioned that apparently runners are eating less than in previous years. The race netted $560.
Upcoming Races:
Ithaca 5 & 10:Lorrie reported that things were in order with plenty of volunteers from Cornell X-C and APO. There are 190 pre-registered.
Danby Down and Dirty: Sue reported that she needed some help with equipment, otherwise things seem to be in order.
Race Calendar:
The 2004 race calendar was finalized.
Finances:
John reported that the checking account balance is $5200, the
scholarship fund is at $2900 and the long term investment is at $6500.
Newsletter:
Diane reported a nice job on the Sept. newsletter thanks to
Tracy. Diane is just starting to work on the Oct. newsletter.
Membership:
No report.
Club Historian:
No report.
Web Page:
Tom reported that the Web page has been very successful. In July
there were 6500 visitors. The use of the web page to download race
applications also seems to be working well.
Equipment:
Jim Miner requested that race directors need to take more
responsibility for equipment and appoint someone to manage the equipment
for their race. Equipment must be cleaned before it is returned.
VP Reports:
Trails: No report
Track: No report
Roads: No report
Other Business:
Tom Scharf from the Community School of Music proposed a new 5K race and is seeking Club sponsorship The race will be run in downtown Ithaca on Nov. 9, 2003. Diane proposed that the Club sponsor the race (with insurance coverage). Tom Meyer seconded the motion. Jeff volunteered to be the Club contact person. Volunteers will be provided by CSM. The motion passed 8 yes and 4 abstentions.
Jim Chely was going to propose a new 10K trial run at the Tanglewood Nature Conservancy. He did not attend the meeting so no action was taken on the proposal.
Sue lead a discussion of FLRC running apparel.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:35 PM.
