Minutes of FLRC Executive Board Meeting

July 11, 2001


Present: Diane Sherrer, Joe Dabes, Lorrie Marnell, Joe Reynolds, Herb Engman, Don Tily, Jim Miner, Yvette DeBoer, Jim Bisogni, Jeff Juran, Alan Lockett, Betsy Martens, Craig Caylor, John Sholeen, Tom Meyer, Sandy Fitterer, Tom Nix, Steve Ryan , Sue Aigen and Steve Synder.

Lorrie called the meeting to order at 5:40

The minutes of the June 13, 2001 were approved.

Jim Miner and Tom Nix reported that Andy Hillman from the City of Ithaca had planted a grove of trees in memory of Rich Lawrence and Steve Gray in Cass Park and that a Leopold bench in Rich's memory in this same area would be appropriate. Tom and Jim will pursue this with the City.

Race Reports:

Ithaca Twilight: Alan reported for Todd Mattison that there were 99 finishers (down from 133 last year). Too many T-shirts were ordered. Todd was going to look into sponsorship for next year. He has offered to continue to be director for next year. The only problem encountered was the printing out of results. The race netted a profit of $370.

Finger Lakes 50's: Joe reported that the races went well There were 87 finishers with several records broken, despite the hot weather. There was lots of great volunteer help. Race finances were not yet available.

Upcoming Races:

Women's Distance Festival: Lorrie and Diane reported that they had lots of volunteers and that they were hoping for 50 to 75 runners.

Forest Frolic: Steve Ryan has the race set up. He has new T-shirts and a few new twists on the 15 K. Weather looks good for the race and there are 83 preregistered.

Loop the Lake 5K: Joe Dabes reported that Audrey Balander and Jim Hoch are in charge of food, Joe is doing the rest. There are 2 preregistrants to date.

Fillmore 5K: Alan reported that he got ThorLo sponsorship. He needs finish line and registration help. There are 12 preregistered.

Empire Haven Run: Doug Kibby needs more volunteers. There are 3 preregistrants to date.

Virgil Mtn Madness: : Steve Snyder is working on new T-shirts. There will be some small changes in the course. Need to get permission from new owner of Rafters (if there is a new owner) so that the parking area can be used.

Berkshire Heritage Run: Tom Ryan wasn't present. Jim Miner and Diane are volunteering.

Finances:
John Sholeen reported that our checkbook balance is approximately $7,000. Balance in scholarship funds is approximately $675. Investment account has approximately $6600.

Newsletter:
Diane reported that the last issue of the newsletter was put on the website in an abridged form. She will continue to do this. Betsy and Diane are going to investigate upgrading the newsletter to a new format.

Membership:
No report.

Web Page:
Tom Meyer has assumed the job as Webmaster. He is working on upgrading the site and adding a few new features.

Equipment:
Jim Miner reported no equipment problems. Diane reported that 3 new tables and $42 worth of aid station supplies were purchased. Jim reminded race directors that the big clock needs to be charged over night before use.

VP Reports:

Trails: Joe Reynolds reported that trails are in good shape.

Track: Tim reported (by e-mail) that he has had no feedback on 400 or 800 m races for Master's races at Cornell. Tim has e-mailed Herb dates of possible meets for the winter indoor track season.

Roads: Jim Miner that there was nothing new to report for our road races.

Sue Aigen moved that we write a letter thanking Dr. Andrew Getzin for his medical attention given at trail races and that we give him a year's membership to the Club. Yvette seconded the motion. The motion carried 15 yes, 1 abstention.

The next Board meeting will be September 12, 2001.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:55pm.
