Minutes of the December 8, 2004 meeting were approved with one correction – incorrect zip code for the Club's new mailing address.
Race Reports:
Jan. Track Meet: Tim reported that the new timing system caused many problems. However, there was a good turnout.
Feb. Track Meet: Tim reported that the timing still hadn't been worked out yet but there was some progress. The meet had about 130 runners with lots of new faces and kids.
Hartshorne Memorial Masters Mile: Lorrie reported for Rick that there was a pending women's world record set. The event went smoothly with cake, shirts, bonus money and a booklet.
Finger Lakes Snowshoe Race: Joe reported that there were tough snowshoeing conditions for the race. There were 52 finishers in the long race and 20 in the fun run. Joe is still looking for someone to take over as director.
Upcoming Races:
March Track Meet: This will be a "Family" event. The 400 m and the mile are the only events that need timing. Tim needs volunteers and old race trophies for the kids.
Skunk Cabbage: John announced that Jiffy Lube will be a race sponsor. Their name needs to be added to the waiver. Volunteers are needed. John is going back to the old Skunk Cabbage T-shirt design.
5 & 10: Tom Scharff announced the committee that will direct the 5 & 10: Tom, Sophia Franck, Evan Kurtz and Nancy Winemiller. They are beginning to get out race publicity. There is some question as to whether the 10 miler needs re-certification to qualify the race for State and regional championships.
Finances:
Chris distributed an update balance sheet for Club finances. A
discussion followed as to how to improve the process of getting deposits
to Chris. She presented the formula that is used to compute usage fees
for the Finger Lakes National Forests.
Newsletter:
Lorrie reported for Diane that there will be a combined Feb/March
newsletter.
Membership:
Casey reported that there were a large number of renewals in
Jan. so the updated membership data was not available. He is following up
on those that didn't respond to his renewal reminder.
Web Page:
Tom has completed his dissertation and plans on being away from
Ithaca for periods of time. Therefore, he is planning to transition out
of his job as webmaster. Casey expressed interest if someone were to
take over his job as membership czar.
Equipment:
Joe reported that Chris needs all equipment back after the March
track meet. The Chronomix is apparently having battery problems. Don
will check it out.
VP Reports:
Trails: Joe stated that trail entry forms are almost ready.
Track: Tim suggested that we get information out on the scholarship for trail running camp. Sue moved that we request interested Club members submit an essay describing why they should be awarded the scholarship. John seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. Tim will write up the announcement. John, Tim and Sue will read the essays.
Roads: Jim reported that he attended the race director's meeting in Syracuse. There is a plan to turn the Mt. Goat race into a Boilermaker-type, event filled, weekend. He also mentioned that Fleet Feet can get us race numbers for free (Asics sponsored).
Other Business:
Joe suggested that we have a booth at the Cornell Wellness Program session on March 6th and he has volunteered to man a booth to represent FLRC.
Lorrie reminded everyone of the Jack Daniel lecture tomorrow at 7:00pm
The meeting was adjourned at 7:11pm.
