Minutes of FLRC Executive Board Meeting

January 15, 2003


Present: Diane Sherrer, Joe Dabes, Lorrie Marnell, Allan Lockett, Herb Engman, Don Tily, Jim Bisogni, Tom Meyer, Sandy Fitterer, Tim Ingall, Joe Reynolds, Jeff Juran, John Sholeen, Jim Miner, Phyllis Radke, Yvette DeBoer, Tony Ciccone, Chris Beach, Tracy Atlas, and Sue Aigen

Lorrie called the meeting to order at 5:37

The minutes of the Nov. 6, 2002 meeting were approved.

Race Reports:

Dec. and Jan. Indoor track meets: Tim reported good turnouts at both events (approx. 90 in Dec. and 150 in Jan.) Runners came from Buffalo to Albany.

Upcoming Races:

Hartshorne Masters Mile: No report from Rick Hoebeke. Diane reported that there is prize and bonus money.

SnowShoe Race: Joe Reynolds reported that the trails are finally in good shape after the recent major ice/snow events. Joe has secured the Logan Ridge Winery as a sponsor. Joe is trying to promote snow shoeing in schools. Diane mentioned that the Elmira Star-Gazette will do a story on the race.

Feb. Track meet: Tim had no report.

March Track meet: An attempt was going to be made to set up, at Cabin Fever, some sort of advertisement for the Family fun day at the March meet.

Skunk Cabbage: Yvette announced that Diane Beckwith has agreed to be co-director. She also announced that Leone timing was going to do results and timing using the chip system. Yvette mentioned that Bangs Ambulance was going to charge a fee for their presence at the race.

Board Retreat:
Herb, Lorrie and Tom passed out a notebook of survey results and other useful information for the upcoming retreat. The retreat will be organized into three smaller focus groups; Organized Runs, Coaching and Racing Teams, Publicity/Membership/Logo. Herb asked that each board member sign up for one of these groups and to review the notebook before the retreat.

Hartshorne Award:
Diane presented Phyllis with a T-Shirt quilt as a winner of the Hartshorne Volunteer award. Diane praised Phyllis's many contributions to the Club.

Logo Competition:
Lorrie reported that the logo committee will chose the top three logo submissions after Jan. 21. The top three submissions will be presented to the Board for final selection (perhaps at the retreat).

Tourism Grant:
Herb moved that the Club submit a grant application to Tompkins County Tourism Bureau for $5,000 to couple our activities with other events to help attract tourists to Tompkins County. Herb volunteered to write the application. The motion was seconded by Jim Miner. The motion passed 16 yes, 1 no, 1 abstention.

Finances:
John presented a summary of Club's financial status for 2002.

Newsletter:
Diane reported the Feb. newsletter is about to go out. She introduced Tracy Atlas as the new Newsletter assistant editor.

Membership:
No report.

Club Historian:
Herb reminded everyone again that all waivers from all races be given to him after a race.

Web Page:
Tom Meyer reported he submitted our web page for the RRCA web page contest.

Equipment:
Jim Miner moved that we not allow equipment to be used at races other than Club sponsored events unless there is a Board member designated as responsible for the equipment. Herb seconded the motion. The motion carried by a vote of 16 yes, 1 no.

VP Reports:

Trails: Joe Reynolds reported that he would be organizing a mile (track) race this summer at Watkins Glen for which he was looking for Club sponsorship. Details to follow.

Track: No report.

Roads: No report.

The next board meeting will be March 12, 2003.
