Minutes of FLRC Executive Board Meeting

January 9, 2002


Present: Diane Sherrer, Lorrie Marnell, Herb Engman, Don Tily, Yvette DeBoer, John Beach, John Sholeen, Jim Miner, Tom Meyer, Sue Aigen, Tim Ingall, Joe Dabes, Joe Reynolds, Sandy Fitterer, Alan Lockett

Lorrie called the meeting to order at 5:40 PM

The minutes of November 14, 2001 were approved.

Added to Agenda were Recreation Masters Plan for State Land – Joe Dabes and Membership – John Beach.

Lorrie reported on and handed out three RRCA National Volunteer Awards to FLRC Board Members Diane Sherrer, Jim Miner, and Jim Bisogni.

Tom Nix was absent and no report was given on the status of the Rich Lawrence park bench.

Sandy Fitterer reported on the election of the club officers. The FLRC candidates are as follows; Lorrie Marnell - President, Jim Bisogni - Secretary, John Sholeen - Treasurer, Tim Ingall - VP Track, Jim Miner - VP Roads, Joe Reynolds - VP Trails, Aimee Roberts - Member at Large, Tony Cicone - Member at Large, Don Tily - Member at Large, Sandy Fitterer - Member at Large.
A notice was placed in the newsletter asking members to cast their ballot via email or by telephoning Sandy. Write-ins were also welcomed.

Race Reports:

Tim Ingall reported on December and upcoming January track meets. Tim received several emails from December attendees stating their appreciation of a well organized and fun event.
The new computer program works well but the Club computer does not support the program.
A general discussion was held concerning borrowing or purchasing a PA system that could be used for track and other FLRC events. No decision was made although general consensus was that it's a good idea.

Upcoming Races:

Diane Sherrer reported on the 35th annual Hartshorne Memorial Masters Mile to be held on Jan 19. Applications and / or commitments for both men and women are strong. On the men's side, two of the top masters milers in the country have committed to the race bringing the total to 14 elite milers. Women have registered 9 elite entries to date.

Co-Directors Diane and Joe reported on the Snowshoe Race. In a major coup, Diane reported that world renowned snowshoe racer Tom Sobol of Colorado will be attending and representing Red Feather Snowshoes. Mr. Sobol will also do a slide show presentation Friday 1/25 at Cornell's McGraw Hall.

Lorrie reported that a bridge on the Ithaca 5+10 course will be removed and replaced this summer but not in time for the event. A new course is needed. This year the 5+10 is the RRCA Northeast Regional Championship Race.

Finances:
John Sholeen reported on finances. The FLRC has about $6,000 in the account representing a profit of approximately $3,500 this year.
Cost of the newsletter was $3,200, revenue was approximately $3,200. $1,500 was placed in the Scholarship Fund. John reported that finishers in road and trail events totaled 1,872. John also handed out Exempt Organization Certificates to race directors.

Membership:
John Beach reported on membership. As of 12/31/01 FLRC membership is as follows:

John stated that our membership has been fairly consistent over the last 5 years. Renewal notices were sent January 7.

Newsletter:
Diane reported that the newsletter was going well with Joe Dabes' assistance for the month of December.

Other Business:
Joe Dabes reported on the Recreational Master Plan. Joe presented a draft report by the DEC and suggested that people send email in support of the document but also mention trail running as an acceptable activity for State trails.

Web Page:
Tom Meyer submitted the FLRC website to RRCA website contest. Tom needs trail entry forms to post on the website and more information on the Triennial event. Several members commented on the outstanding work that Tom has done.

Equipment:
Jim Miner reported on equipment. Jim is storing all equipment at his Dryden home.
Joe Dabes ordered 2 batches of race numbers, 1,000 each.
Some discussion on purchasing an AC adapter for the large clock.

VP Reports:

Trails: Comment was made that we need more trail applications. These should be available for display at the Skunk Cabbage.

The next Board meeting will be March 13, 2002.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:01pm.
